Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Honest Coin (operated by an independent developer) ("we") for the Honest Coin app. By using the app you accept them. If you obtained the app from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) also applies: www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

1. What the app does

Honest Coin uses artificial intelligence to suggest what coin is in your photos (country, denomination, year, mint mark, series, variety) and to estimate its condition from what is visible. It then shows information computed from that reading: the face value of US coins, the silver melt value of US silver coins (standard silver content times the silver price shown), a flag when the date matches a known key date or variety on our list, and links to public sold listings and price guides. The app does not estimate what a coin is worth or will sell for. Results are automated.

2. Results are not appraisals or grades

  • Results are not professional appraisals, grades, authentications or financial advice.
  • The app cannot verify that a coin is genuine. Counterfeit and altered coins exist.
  • A grade estimated from photos can differ from a professional grade by several points, and the grade can change the value a lot.
  • The app does not give a market value. Actual sale prices depend on grade, eye appeal, metal prices, timing, where you sell and buyer demand. Sold listings and price guides we link to are run by third parties.
  • Melt values are the value of the silver content only, at the silver price and date shown; the silver price changes constantly. A key-date flag means "check this coin closely", not that it is genuine or valuable.
  • You are responsible for your buying and selling decisions. For valuable coins, consult a reputable dealer or a professional grading service.

3. Free scans and subscriptions

  • The free plan includes 3 scans per day (the count restarts at midnight UTC). Free scans are counted on our server per installation. Photos we can't identify give the free scan back (up to 3 times a day). A close-up re-check that the app asks for, sent within 30 minutes of the scan, does not use a scan.
  • Honest Coin Pro (unlimited scans, favorites, collection export and batch scanning) is an auto-renewing subscription: monthly ($4.99) or yearly ($29.99). Prices may vary by country and are always shown in the app before you buy. There is no weekly plan.
  • We do not offer a free trial that converts into a paid subscription; the free daily scans are the way to try the app. If an introductory offer is ever added, its length and the price after it will be shown in full before you confirm.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), or via Settings → Manage subscription in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current paid period stays active until it ends.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies (reportaproblem.apple.com).

4. Acceptable use

Don't use the app to break the law, infringe others' rights, scan images you have no right to use, attempt to bypass usage limits, reverse engineer the service, or overload our servers.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos you submit. You give us a limited licence to process them only to provide the service, as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee that results will be accurate, complete or available at all times.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses from buying, selling or grading decisions based on the app's results. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer in the EU/UK.

8. Changes and termination

We may update the app and these terms. We'll notify you of material changes in the app. You can stop using the app at any time.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's place of residence, without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live.

10. Trademarks

eBay, Numista, PCGS and NGC are trademarks of their respective owners. Honest Coin is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
