Honest Coin

Disclaimer

Honest Coin identifies coins from photos with AI. It is not a professional appraisal, grade or authentication, and it does not guess prices.

What you get

  • A best-effort identification of the coin in your photos: country, denomination, year, mint mark, series and any visible variety.
  • A condition estimate based only on what the photos show.
  • A key-date check: when the date (and mint mark) matches a well-known key date or die variety on our list, the app says so and lists what to check. This is a prompt to look closer, not a confirmation.
  • Face value for US coins, and the silver melt value for US silver coins: the coin's standard silver content multiplied by the silver price shown with the result (with its date).
  • Links to public sold listings (eBay) and price guides (PCGS CoinFacts, NGC) for the coin as read, so you can see what similar coins actually sold for.

What it is not

  • It is not an appraisal, a professional grade, an authentication or a certificate of any kind.
  • It does not confirm that a coin is genuine or unaltered.
  • It does not tell you what your coin is worth or will sell for. Melt value is the value of the silver alone; collectors may pay more.
  • It is not financial or investment advice, and it does not predict future prices.

Why a reading can be wrong

  • Photos can hide wear, cleaning, scratches, repairs and the small details (dates, mint marks, doubling) that decide which coin it is.
  • Counterfeit, altered and damaged coins exist.
  • The AI can misread a date or mint mark, especially on worn coins.
  • The silver price changes during the day; the melt value uses the price and date shown.
  • Sold listings and price guides belong to third parties. Compare coins with the same date, mint mark and similar condition.

When a detail that matters is hard to read, the app asks you for a close-up instead of guessing. For a coin that may be valuable, ask a reputable dealer or a professional grading service before buying or selling.
