Honest Coin

Best coin identifier app without a subscription trap

Short answer: pick a coin identifier whose free plan stays free, that has no weekly plan and no free trial that turns into a charge, and whose paywall you can close. Honest Coin is built that way: 3 coins a day are free with no payment details, and Pro is an optional $4.99/month or $29.99/year with no trial and no weekly plan — every price shown in full before you pay.

Honest Coin for iPhone is coming soon to the App Store. Updated October 7, 2026.

Pro · Yearly$29.99/year (about $2.50/month), same features.

Prices may vary by country and are always shown in the app before you buy. Pro renews automatically until you cancel, at least 24 hours before renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the paid period. Full terms: Terms of Use.

How to spot a subscription trap

These are the patterns to check in any coin app's upgrade screen and App Store page before you tap Subscribe:

  1. A free trial that renews into a paid plan. On the App Store a trial subscription keeps going unless you cancel it — Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends if you don't want it to renew (Apple Support). If the button says "Start free trial", find the date and the price you'll pay after it.
  2. Weekly billing. A weekly price looks small but adds up: multiply it by 52. For example, $4.99 a week is about $259 a year.
  3. A yearly plan pre-selected with a trial. Check which plan is highlighted and what the small print under the button says will be charged, and when.
  4. A paywall you can't get past. If the app asks you to subscribe before you can identify a single coin, or the close button is hidden or delayed, you can't test it before paying. A real free plan lets you try it on your own coins.
  5. Price details you have to hunt for. Apple's App Review Guidelines (section 3.1.2, Subscriptions) ask apps to clearly describe what you get for the price before asking you to subscribe. If you can't find the price, the billing period and what happens after a trial, don't subscribe yet.

Check before you tap Subscribe

  • What can I do for free, and does the free plan reset or run out for good?
  • Is there a trial? On what date does it end, and what will I be charged then?
  • Is the price per week, per month or per year?
  • Can I close the upgrade screen and keep using the free plan?

Already subscribed? Cancel or ask for a refund

All App Store subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by the app. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → choose the subscription → Cancel Subscription. If there's no cancel button, Apple says the subscription is already canceled (Cancel a subscription from Apple). For a refund, follow Apple's refund steps.
